Project on Conflict and Human Security (Sponsored by Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University and Institute for Peace Science, Hiroshima University and financially supported by the Japan Foundation) |
The concept of human security has emerged as a tool for coordinating various activities of international aid and peace operations in a comprehensive manner. This project is intended to examine critical issues in conflict resolution and peace-building from the perspective of human security, and explore the possibility of new practical approaches. A new concept like human security is required, as serious problems in the contemporary world make it imperative to construct a strategic framework beyond national boundaries. A comprehensive and integrative perspective to provide security for individuals is crucial in making effective use of limited resources of international society. The project attempts to identify and prioritize the human security measures which could contribute to conflict resolution and peace-building. As a joint project of Japanese and American scholars, special attention is given to Japan and the United States, which have key roles in implementing human security measures for conflict resolution and peace-building. |
