INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Scott L. Bills is Director of Peace Studies at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina. During the 2000-2001 academic year he served as Regents Professor of History at Stephen F. Austin State University. Scott served as president of the Peace History Society during 1999-2000 and previously edited the organization's journal Peace and Change. He is author of Empire and Cold War (1990) and The Libyan Arena (1995) as well as articles on historical remembrance and dissident movements.

Charlotte Bretherton is Senior Lecturer in International Politics at Liverpool John Moores University. Recent publications include work on gender and global environmental change (1998) and gender and biotechnology (2000). She has recently completed a project on the gender implications of political and economic transformation in Poland.

Earl Conteh-Morgan is Professor of International Studies in the Department of Government and International Affairs, at the University of South Florida. He authored Democratization in Africa: The Theory and Dynamics of Political Transitions (Praeger, 1997), co-authored Sierra Leone at the End of the Twentieth Century: History, Politics, and Society; and co-edited Peacekeeping in Africa: ECOMOG in Liberia. His articles have appeared in many journals. He is currently analyzing the impact of globalization processes on Africa from a neo-Gramscian perspective.

Ho-Ill Lee was trained in political science at the University of Oregon. He has taught political science at Northwest Christian College and is presently teaching at Seowon University as Lecturer. His primary interest is in the contemporary significance of traditional East Asian political thought.

Kari Laitinen is senior assistant professor in the department of international relations and political science in the University of Tampere, Finland. His main interests are related to security issues and European studies, international relations theory and critical geopolitics.

The Dalai Lama is the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet. In 1989, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He is author of several books including Kindness, Clarity and Insight and Ethics for the New Millennium.
