Our first exhibit, which coincided with the beginning of International Week '98, was a terrific success. We received support from many students who were anxious and eager to help in any way they could. We also want to thank The International Campaign for Tibet, Milarepa Fund, and the National Students For a Free Tibet office for providing us with the educational materials which helped to make this such a success!
This is the view of our exhibit from outside room 116 in the Johnson center. We set up a computer linked to various Tibetan organizations (left) and showed films and documentaries (right). Prayer Flags were strung across the right side and over the doorway. The poster on the left window is of the Panchen Lama, whose birthday is on April 25, when he will turn 9 years old. Both he and his family were kidnapped by Chinese authorities making him the world's youngest political prisoner!
Here we are setting up our exhibit on
the Sunday evening before opening day.
This was our main display area. Literature about Tibet was here as well as our membership forms and petition to Sec. of State Albreight asking her to take some action on the human rights abuses so prevalent in Tibet.
In the future, as our membership grows and more people become aware of the problems facing Tibet and the Tibetan people, many more events like this will be held to educate the GMU community and let them see that we really can make a difference!
