Nominations For Officers for 2008-2009

Bismilah Al-Rahman Al-Rahim
With the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

My dear respected brothers and sisters in Islam,

Assalaamu Alykum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh,

At this time of the year, as every year, the current cabinet prepares to arrange for the elections for the new MSA cabinet. As the preparations are reaching their final stages, the current MSA cabinet asks you for continuous support for the future MSA and to find in your hearts a place to forgive the mishaps of the current cabinet.

This MSA, as any other Islamic organization, is stronger and more beneficiary when every member feels that he/she is responsible towards his religion. MSA is an organization that is built on that base. It is the responsibility of every one of us to add to it by either continuously volunteering to serve during their events, or by advising the cabinet if that member sees any mishaps or violations.

That having been said, allow us to mention some of the regulations regarding the nomination process.

Nominations:

The nomination process will be opened on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 until April 4, 2008. Every member of the MSA has the right to nominate any person whom they see suitable to carry the trust of becoming an influential officer of the MSA 2008 2009.

Some of the criteria a nominee should meet:

   1. A nominee must have minimum Islamic knowledge to allow him/her:

a. To reach out to Muslim Students in a manner that will attract them to join and strive for the betterment of the association and the representation of Islam.

b. Solve disputes among Muslims in accordance to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him.

c. Represent Islam to non-Muslims in the most proper manner without compromising the real values and qualities of Islam.

2. Being an active member who volunteered at MSA events by putting his/her capabilities in the service of the MSA before, during, and after the events.

Other qualities every nominee needs to fulfill are found in the MSA constitution, which can be found at: http://www3.gmu.edu/org/msa/information_links/constitution.htm

The process:

To be able to run for a position as an MSA officer for the future cabinet, the nominee has:

- To receive two nominations from current MSA members.
- The nominations process will open starting Wednesday, March 19th through midnight Friday, April 4th.
-  You can nominate a person by email. Send an email to gmumsa (at) googlegroups.com with a subject line: MSA Elections Nomination.
- State the name of the person you are nominating, the position you are nominating him/her for, his or her contact information (email or phone number), and WHY you are nominating him/her.

Position to nominate for:

   1. President
   2. Brothers' Vice President: To be filled by a brother.
   3. Sisters' Vice President: To be filled by a sister.
   4. Secretary
   5. Treasurer
   6. Brother's Coordinator: To be filled by a brother.

Final decision on acceptable nominations/ nominees will be taken by the MSA elections committee. Accepted nominees will be informed via email or phone
